Here’s How to Make ‘Em Appi this Valentine’s Day!

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, have you bought something for that special person? Have no fear, YouAppi has you covered.

Spending Trend Numbers

According to research from the National Retail Federation (NRF) in the US, last year, Valentine’s Day was the special occasion with the greatest percentage increase in spending from the previous year. NRF research shows that spending on Valentine’s Day in 2019 increased by 12.8% from 2018, the only holiday/consumer spending event with a double-digit increase.

Although the NRF doesn’t have data for 2020, marketers should take this data to heart and capitalize on opportunities for Valentine’s Day this year. YouAppi forecasts increased focus and budget for retargeting campaigns to assist cupid with gift purchasing in preparation for Valentine’s Day.

A Valentine’s Day survey conducted by Etsy, a global marketplace for unique and creative goods, showed that the big trends this year include ultra-personalized gifts (that they’ll never see coming) and experiential gifts. In fact, 67% of those surveyed said that they want a gift that really surprises them!

Apps to Impress

Want to surprise them? How about taking them dancing? You can go to a local club any day of the week, but for Valentine’s Day, it’s time to take it up a notch and take them Dirty Dancing at the Duet Dance Studio’s Valentine's Day "Dirty Dancing" Party 2020 in Chicago (thanks, Marie Claire!) The Duet Dance Studio is hosting two “Dirty Dancing” parties, one on Friday the 14th and the other on Saturday the 15th and there are still some good flight deals available on Kiwi.com and Kiwi app.

If your significant other is more into Jack and Rose than Johnny and Baby, why not book My Vintage Valentine on the Queen Mary just outside of Los Angeles in Long Beach. To completely experience the Queen Mary, the grandest ocean liner in the world at the time of her maiden voyage in 1936, book a night in the ship’s luxurious hotel, perfect for the Valentine’s Day long weekend. If you’re not from the metro LA area, check out flight deals on the Skyscanner app.

For those with busy work/life schedules, spending some quiet time with that special person at home could be the best way to spend Valentine’s Day. If this describes your relationship, then why not start your evening with an intimate dinner ordered via Postmates in the US or Delivery Hero in Europe or Asia. After dinner, watch one of the first movies you saw together as a couple, or if you missed seeing them, YouAppi recommends these favorites –  ‘When Harry Met Sally’ (the 1980s), ’10 Things I Hate About You’ (the 1990s), ‘Love Actually’ (the 2000s) and ‘The Big Sick’ (the 2010s).

When you think about Valentine’s Day like a marketer, it’s basically the one day where you focus on re-engaging that special someone by showering them with things they love. The love of your life isn’t just a user, they’re people who love what you market, so use this special day to return some of the love.
